Do Attractive People Have Advantages Over Others?

Most people would subconsciously hire an attractive person before an unattractive person. Research has shown that attractive children are disciplined more than unattractive children. Which means right from the beginning the attractive children will have more confidence and are getting a better start to life. They also make friends more easily. Attractive people incite positive feelings in others, and those positive feelings tend to make us see them more favorably than non-attractive people. Based on those positive feelings, I think we give attractive people a leg up over others- whether in work or social situations so they have more chances in life. With or without intention we as teachers  as employers are biased towards then.

Should middle schools teach sex education?

I am for teaching sex education in middle school because without it, it leave student unprepared for life. Failure to provide sex education to middle school students leaves them unprepared for many challenges they may face in life. There are all sorts of diseases that people may get if they lack education in this area, and rather than letting them figure it out by trial and error, it's better to prepare them.  Also some students don’t have parents or parents who don’t care enough to have the talk with them. It is necessary to reach students to be careful and at least know how to be safe about it. Some students, belonging to the new generation, of middle school age are having sex. So while the thought of needing to teach sex to middle school classes may be uncomfortable to some, it is necessary to educate these students about sex and its consequences so they can protect themselves

Should students be allowed to bring a phone to school?

School isn't for hanging and chatting that’s what home and Face book is for. School is for learning. And students do not need phones for learning experience. If student wants to chat with people, he has 9-12 hours after school to do that. If he wants to talk to someone in school, so he should talk to them in person during break in between class. Moreover teachers deserve a student's full attention and respect in class. Using phone in the class is the opposite. It's common among students who bring phones to classroom that they are likely to be distracted by messages from friends and family. Today most students are connected to social media 24/24 and are easily distracted and lose concentration on lectures when they receive notifications. Therefore, it leads to poor schooling performance especially for those who are less self-disciplined and sensible to surroundings.  Another problem found is that using phone in class may affect other student's attention on studying.

School uniform

I am for school uniforms. It helps with the cost of money for parents with the less threat of students getting attack so school uniforms are a good thing it brings unity in the schools. It helps students to learn at school instead of worrying about what their friends’ clothes look like. When everyone is wearing the same uniform, that will increase grades of the ones whose families can’t afford the high cost of jeans and shirts. If families buy uniforms, the money spent on clothing can go towards another domestic bill. Wearing a school uniform promotes a proper way to dress in a certain type of environment. Students will eventually learn that in the future they will have to dress a certain way for a job, so learning early on is not bad at all. Of course it might be nice to be allowed to wear whatever you want but if a school requests that you wear a certain uniform  then there is nothing wrong with that.

Is it necessary adding music education to other traditional education (math, science….) in our schools?

Recent studies and researchers found that students who study music tend to have larger vocabularies and more advanced reading skills than their peers who do not participate in music lessons. And studying music primes the brain to understand speech in a noisy background so students with learning disabilities or dyslexia could benefit greatly from music lessons. Students who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills and stay in school. A study from France University revealed that students who study arts are more cooperative with their teachers and peers, have higher levels self-confidence, and are more equipped to express themselves and their ideas. Moreover learning a musical instrument improves the way the brain understands human language, making music students more apt to pick up a second language.  So music is to the brain as physical exercise is to the human body.

Is the online learning effective?

Online learning is least effective if the purpose is knowledge consumer and the learning mode is knowledge transfer. When online learning imitates the traditional schooling, where teachers download and distribute information and when the learner’s primary purpose is to access this information, it is difficult to show significant effectiveness gains over traditional teaching and learning that is not mediated by digital technology.

Online learning becomes more effective when the purpose is knowledge collaboration and application where the learners are not just consumers of knowledge, but collaborators who work together to develop a certain knowledge and information. The purpose here is to create new knowledge that gives the learners an opportunity to build on other’s concepts and ideas.

When the learners become participants, they deepen their personal knowledge and skill. I think it’s time to transform the traditional schooling modes into new learning purposes and modes.

As teachers how do we prevent cheating?

Teachers have to create an environment in which cheating is discouraged and very difficult. By taking steps to prevent cheating we help our students grow into responsible and knowledgeable adults. The more a teacher knows about the methods being used in cheating, the more effectively the teacher can set up the classroom to prevent students from being tempted to cheat. We need to use even more activities and tests focused on thinking and comprehension. This is done by replacing multiple-choice formats with tests that required a demonstration of understanding, not just repeating memorized information. And instead of taking notes, students made notes which included putting conclusions and making connections. Open book test is one of the effective activities where students have all the information they need, but this will not necessarily help them if our questions are thoughtfully constructed. Consequently our students will learn that having the material between hands has no use to them unless they have already spent time studying the material

Preventing too much homework

Homework is a task by teachers for students to do outside normal lessons – usually at home in the evening. Schools have been setting homework in developed countries for over a century. Countries, schools and subjects differ a lot on how much homework is set, and at what age, but almost all high school students have to do at least some most nights. In England the government does not make schools give homework but it does set guidelines. Five year olds are expected to do an hour a week, increasing to three hours a week at 11 and ten hours or more a week at 16. I think excessive homework hurts students of all ages because:
  • It Prevents Play, as play is not just fun it actually helps students learn particularly for younger ones.
  • When students who are not ready for certain tasks are pushed into doing them, they may not learn properly. They may feel more stressed and turned off to learning. Too much homework turns students off to learning and makes them less rather than more invested in school and learning.
  • Current studies have demonstrated the importance of emotional intelligencewhich involves understanding one’s own and others’ emotions. Doing a lot of homework does not leave children the proper amount of time to interact socially with family members and peers in a way that will develop their emotional intelligence.
