As teachers how do we prevent cheating?

Teachers have to create an environment in which cheating is discouraged and very difficult. By taking steps to prevent cheating we help our students grow into responsible and knowledgeable adults. The more a teacher knows about the methods being used in cheating, the more effectively the teacher can set up the classroom to prevent students from being tempted to cheat. We need to use even more activities and tests focused on thinking and comprehension. This is done by replacing multiple-choice formats with tests that required a demonstration of understanding, not just repeating memorized information. And instead of taking notes, students made notes which included putting conclusions and making connections. Open book test is one of the effective activities where students have all the information they need, but this will not necessarily help them if our questions are thoughtfully constructed. Consequently our students will learn that having the material between hands has no use to them unless they have already spent time studying the material

  2. In fact, cheating is an extremely common occurrence in high school that is likely hard for a teacher to control but i think that teachers ca do it.
teachers should first make students understand what the word plagiarism means and its consequences as one get older, students should know that only lazy people steal things and they should be aware of the serious consequences that can results from cheating.
"If it was more about learning, we wouldn't see the cheating". Hence, students should know the intrinsic value of their work and should be motivated to do it, so as teachers we should value learning over out comes. however there is still some student who cheat, and there fore the teacher -as u said Kinana-should set up a class room environment to prevent cheating. This can be achieved through working on activities that are focused on thinking and tests that require comprehension rather than repeating memorized facts, this can encourage every student to think and do it by him/her self. I also agree that open book tests can work, it helps students apply information .
Finally, as teachers we should encourage real learning and offer opportunities to demonstrate understanding.

  4. Instructors can reduce the incidence of cheating by paying specific attention to how they communicate their expectations to students, how they prepare their exams, and how they administer their exams. Whatever decisions you make regarding academic safety, it is urgent that these decisions be fully communicated to students, create a test that is fair to your students, write new tests each semester. Moreover, in terms of administer their exams, a teacher should number seats and tests and then assign students to sit in the seat with the same number as the number on their test. In that way the teacher will be minimizing cheating.
