Preventing too much homework

Homework is a task by teachers for students to do outside normal lessons – usually at home in the evening. Schools have been setting homework in developed countries for over a century. Countries, schools and subjects differ a lot on how much homework is set, and at what age, but almost all high school students have to do at least some most nights. In England the government does not make schools give homework but it does set guidelines. Five year olds are expected to do an hour a week, increasing to three hours a week at 11 and ten hours or more a week at 16. I think excessive homework hurts students of all ages because:
  • It Prevents Play, as play is not just fun it actually helps students learn particularly for younger ones.
  • When students who are not ready for certain tasks are pushed into doing them, they may not learn properly. They may feel more stressed and turned off to learning. Too much homework turns students off to learning and makes them less rather than more invested in school and learning.
  • Current studies have demonstrated the importance of emotional intelligencewhich involves understanding one’s own and others’ emotions. Doing a lot of homework does not leave children the proper amount of time to interact socially with family members and peers in a way that will develop their emotional intelligence.

  1. When teacher go to extremes this would influence students negatively. Teachers should not give students a lot of home works but at the same time she shouldn't deprive them from home works. Giving students’ homework is very important since it’s a technique to evaluate their understandings and it’s a kind of practice to what they have learned in class. Also when a teacher gives students homework this forces them to study at home. It very important for students to study day by day what was explained in class this would increase their ability to understand the discussed topics much more clearly. Also this increases students’ performance and let them achieve higher marks. But again what you have said about too much home works is true since teachers might not be aware that when students feel that they are forced to do something they will get de-motivated and the process of learning will shut down. It's all about being in the golden mean which is to be always in the moderate zone.
